The Amazing Voice of Vincent Irizarry

It never ceases to amaze me how multi-talented soap actors are, and Vincent Irizarry (ex-David AMC) is one of the most talented I've run across. Trained as a classical pianist and tenor before he transitioned to acting, Vincent's bluesy rendition of Please Come Home for Christmas on the ABC Daytime Presents a Holiday Affair CD (2006) is worth the price of the entire CD. I ought to know because I bought it last year. I just re-watched the making of the album on SoapNet and I'm still in love with this song and this actor's voice.

Irizarry is handsome enough to just stand around and look pretty, but the subtle layers of his character David Hayward on All My Children were amazing enough to keep one tuning in just to watch him. He was truly a villain to love--notice I didn't say "love to hate." No, entirely too many of his fellow AMC characters fell in love with the devilish doc to say love to hate. I think the transition moment for me was when he accidentally poisoned the boatload of Pine Valley-ites with the fictional drug libidozone. What does he do when his elbow is bumped and the entire contents of the flask are dumped into the punch bowl? His eyebrows raise, then a devilish grin is followed by a shrug, as if saying, "Oh well..."

Who could NOT resist this bad boy? Not me, for sure. And no matter what the writers had him do in the following years, I could always forgive David because Vincent was always able to give me, the viewer, a view of the character's heart beneath the bad boy image.

So, click on the link in the title above and hear his marvelous voice. The rest of the vocal stylings aren't bad either. Kassie De Paiva, from Morganfield, KY, only one county over from where I grew up, Tika Sumpter, Rene Elise Goldsberry, Kathy Brier, and Eden Riegel are particularly memorable.
